“Kill Switch” Killed By The Senate

Last year, the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 met some difficulties and criticisms of lack of transparency and overreaching powers given to the federal government. Sen. Joe Lieberman has put the issue of the “kill switch” to rest, announcing that in the new version of the bill, the Cybersecurity and Internet Freedom Act of 2011, no officer or employee of the U.S. government will have the authority to “shut down” the Internet. The new bill also calls for more government transparency and security.
